He was predeceased by: his parents, Lee Stano and Pauline Stano; and his brother Robert "Bob" Stano. He is survived by: his spouse Merrilee; his daughters, Joan Darlene of Greendale, Jaclyn Denise of Gainesville, Florida. and Jill Nelson (Kristopher) of Richmond; his grandchildren, Joshua Weaver, Matthew Weaver (Emily), Johannah Nelson, Theodore Nelson, Topher Nelson, Kailyn Stano and Ella Stano; his great grandchildren, Owen Weaver and Willow Weaver; and his brother Donald "Al" Stano (Bonnie) of Dillsboro, Indiana..

Memorials may be given in honor of Ernie to the Son's of American Legion Scholarship Fund.
