He was predeceased by: his parents, Mont Smith and Meriam Smith (Clupper); and his sisters, Goldie Walls (Smith) and Connie Ashmore (Smith). He is survived by: his wife Beanna Smith (Morgan); his sister Bonnie Miller (Smith); and his children, Mike Smith, Tim Smith (Rachel), Donald Asher (Trina), Teresa Simpson (John), Susie Reed (Daniel) and Theresa Swafford (Nicki). He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
