It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sammie Johnson (Mount Vernon, Indiana), born in Waterloo, Alabama, who passed away on July 24, 2023, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Hubert Johnson and Callie Johnson; his siblings, John, Hubert (Rose), Aileen Waller (Alois) and Willie Mae William (Carl); and his daughter Dr. Nicole Orr Anderson.

He is survived by : his wife Phyllis Stewart Johnson; his children, Stuart Johnson (Lee Ann), Davita Hubbard and Dirk Johnson (Heather); his grandchildren, Megan Haefner (Branden), Sam, Kinsey, Payton and Ashlyn Johnson; his nieces, Kenya Orr, Regina Flowers (Rob) and Ella Watson (Jerry); his great-niece Zion Anderson; and his sister-in-law Yvonne Johnson. He is also survived by extended family members and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Slick's memory to Thrive After School Program or NewLife Rescue (formerly Posey Humane Society).
