He was predeceased by: his mother Marilyn K. Smitson; and his brother Richard "Ricky" Smitson. He is survived by: his father Robert Smitson; his wife Pamela Smitson (Taylor); his daughter Kathryn "Katie" Smitson (Devin Meade); his stepdaughter Deana Moles (Gary); his granddaughter Brylnee Moles; his siblings, Sandy Hunter (Brad) and Michael Smitson (Chelle); his siblings-in-law, Darvin Taylor (Tammy), David Taylor (Twila), Patricia Taylor Neal, Wilda Taylor Evans (John) and Betty Taylor Asberry (Johnny); his caregiver Patricial Neal; and his sister-in-law Abigail Meadows (Virginia "Ginny" Goul). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
