He is survived by: his siblings, Jim Smekens and Janet George; his children, Todd Smekens and Stephanie Fleming; his grandchildren, Ryan Rutter of Muncie, Chris, Matt Smekens of Florida, Nathan Brown of Kentucky and Elise Swearingen-Smekens; and his great grandchild Colt Rutter. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
