She was predeceased by: her parents, Newton Dennis and Fern Dennis (McWilliams); her brother Don; her sister-in-law Carolyn Dennis; and her grandson Alex Shaffer.
She is survived by: her husband Donald Wayne Hiatt (Muncie); her children, Kimberly (Mike Shaffer), Todd (Connie Hiatt) and Anita (Curt Austin); and her grandchildren, Kent Shaffer, Andrea Stevenson, Ross Hiatt, Jonathan Austin-Wright, Emily Reinhard and Ben Austin. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or The Scottish Rite Dyslexia Center of Indiana (chilrensdyslexiacenters.org) in the honor of Joan Hiatt.
