He was predeceased by: his parents, Raymond Fields and Hattie Fields (Smith); his wife Patricia Mitchell-Fields; his son Todd Stratton; and his siblings, Billie Slayton, Helen Hill, Robert Fields and Raymond Sylvester Fields.

He is survived by: his son Fred Middleton; his stepson Greg Mitchell (Marcia); and his siblings, Mary Ann Montague and Frank Fields (Angelia Gordon). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
