He was predeceased by: his parents, Wendell Whittern and Barbara Whittern. He is survived by: his wife Liz; his daughters, Wendy Pollert (Bill) and Carly Smith (Chad); his granddaughters, Annabel, Madeline and Cecelia Pollert; his children, Carolina, Whitten and Beau Smith; his aunt Marlene Stephens; and his siblings, Gary Whittern, Jeff Whittern (Polli), Cindy McCormick and Jennifer Whittern Combs. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
