He was predeceased by: his parents, James Harold Smelser and Margaret LaVonne Alderton Sprinkle; his brother Charles Edward Jumper; his niece Tamara Kay Jumper West; and his brother-in-law Michael Joseph Reed Sr..
He is survived by: his daughter Eleanor Arpaia Gibbs (Chris) of Fishers, Indiana; his grandchildren, Merry Jane Arpaia of Bradenton and James Vincent Gibbs of Cincinnati, Ohio.; and his siblings, Janis Yvonne Smelser Sprinkle (Jay), Debra Sue Smelser Reed and Kenneth Bruce Wisehart (Jeanette) of Marion, Indiana. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
