He was predeceased by: his parents, Marshall Watt and Norma Hughes (Gray); and his sister Carolyn Bird (Bob). He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Sue (Lawson); his children, Phillip Hughes (Vicky), Ellyn Morgan (Dann), Terrie Orr (Darrell) and Douglas Hughes; his brothers, Larry Hughes (Judy) and Steve Hughes (Marcia); his brother-in-law Jack Wagoner (JoAnn); and his close friend Estel Hines (Karola). He is also survived by his best friend and greatest love of his life.

Should friends desire, the family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.
