He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard McDowell and Flaura McDowell (McKee); his wife Darlene McDowell; his son William McDowell; his grandson Brian Michael McDowell; and his sisters, Elsie Newton and Helen "Maxine" West.
He is survived by: his grandchildren, Christal Hicks (Mitchell) and Scotty McDowell; and his daughter-in-law Christine McDowell. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.
