He is survived by: his sons, Craig Smolen (Jennifer) and Jeremy Smolen; his grandchildren, Tyler, Samantha, Catie Anna, Ivy and Emmett; and his siblings, Christopher Smolen (Tammy), Claudia Matusik (George), Cathleen Micco (Robert), James Sonntag (Paula) and Katherine Lorenz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
