Doris Marie Heavrin Obituary
Doris Marie Heavrin, 86, passed on July 15, 2026. She was born on April 28, 1940, in Seymour, Indiana to the late James E. Ashby and Mereda Stafford McCaffrey.
Throughout her life, she was known for her caring heart, strong work ethic, and dedication to serving others. She spent her career working in dietary services at New Albany Floyd County Schools, Bennett Place, and Azalea Hills, where she took pride in preparing meals and caring for those she served.
She found great joy in the simple pleasures of life and especially loved cooking for family and friends, canning the fruits of her labor, tending her garden, and spending time fishing. Her home was often filled with warmth, delicious food, and the love she shared with those around her.
She was also passionate about helping others communicate and served as a sign language interpreter for members of Graceland Baptist Church and the Floyd County court system. Her willingness to use her gifts to serve others made a lasting difference in the lives of many.
She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, unwavering faith, and the love she had for her family, friends, and community. Her legacy of service, compassion, and devotion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Heavrin; a sister, Rose Carroll; and two brothers, Billy Dean Ashby and Jimmy Ashby.
Doris is survived by four children, DeWayne Keller (Diane), Mark Keller (Mary), Janice Fisher (Robert) and Jim Keller; grandchildren, Alex Keller (Adrienne), Katie Keller (Daniel), Nicholas Keller (Brianna), Sara Buelna (Sergio), Kristen Thompson (Sam), Taylor Fisher (Hailey), Kaylin Keller (Shane); nine great grandchildren; four siblings, Carol Watters, Linda Sullivan, Susie Beikman and Glenn Ashby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd, New Albany, Indiana 47150, on July 22, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at Kraft Funeral Service at 1:00 pm with private burial at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
