He was predeceased by: his son Matt Schmelz; his brother Charles Schmelz; and his father Leonard Schmelz. He is survived by: his wife Mitzi Lyon; his daughter Lauren Carney; his mother Martha Schmelz; and his brothers, Dan Schmelz (Robin) and Ted Schmelz (Jen). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
