She was predeceased by: her parents, Robert C. Utley and Edith L. Utley (Gregory); her husband Donald J. Carter; her siblings, Dottie Cox, Martha Waters, Francis Buckman, Deanna Butterfield, Roger Utley and Michael Utley; and her son Donald R. Carter.

She is survived by: her children, Joseph W. Carter and Lisa M. Gardner (Matt); and her daughter-in-law Debra Carter. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
