He was predeceased by: his wife Joyce Salyers; his parents, Lyhue Salyers and Girdell Dingus Salyers; and his daughter-in-law Jonella Salyers. He is survived by: his children, Melissa Rockelman (David), Michael Salyers (Julie) and Mitchell Salyers; his grandchildren, Stefan Maupin, Nicholas Maupin, Grace Salyers, Quinn Salyers, Jonah Salyers, Jaynie Salyers, Jobey Salyers, Judah Salyers and Josee Salyers; his great grandchildren, Jett Maupin, Finn Maupin and Jace Maupin; his close friend Millie Burgmeier; his great grandchild Merrill; Pete Burgmeier and Brady.
A masonic service was held on Sunday, September 27th 2026 at 6:30 PM at the Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service (115 S State St, North Vernon, IN 47265). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 28th 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location. A burial was held on Monday, September 28th 2026 at the Hayden Cemetery (280 S County Rd 700 W, North Vernon, IN 47265).
Memorial contributions in Merrill's memory may be made to North Vernon Senior Housing, or the Park Theater Civic Center. Merrill Salyers will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to education, his contributions to the community, and the profound love he instilled in his family.
