He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman D. Shaffer and Catherine I. Shaffer (Zuber); and his siblings, Herman Jr., John, Gene, Bob Shaffer, Betty Schlichter and Judy Huffman.
He is survived by: his wife Judith A. Plummer; his children, Mark Shaffer (Karen) of Petroleum, Michael Shaffer (Tonya) of Bluffton and Katherine "Kathy" Shaffer-Garr (Richard) of Bluffton; his siblings, Jim Shaffer of Bluffton and Lola Myers of Webster, FL; his grandchildren, Tyler Shaffer (Brittany) of Bluffton, Benjamin Shaffer of Petroleum, Reid Shaffer (Rachel) of Indianapolis, Anthony Garr of Bluffton, Thomas Garr of Bluffton, Katie Schwaller (Matt) of West Chester, OH, Christa Shaffer of Bluffton and Alyssa Shaffer of Bluffton; and his great grandchildren, Brayden Shaffer, Autumn Shaffer, Finn O'Neil, Harper Shaffer and Ivy Schwaller.
