He was predeceased by : his parents, Paul "Ike" Farris and Ella Marie Oilar (Rusk); his brothers, Paul Oilar and Roger Oilar; his brothers-in-law, Dennis Grider and Jim Lewis; and his half-sister Pauletta Rennick.

He is survived by : his wife Brenda Lou Grider; his son Dustin Shane Oilar of Pine Village, IN; his sisters, Suella Cobbs (Ralph) of Delphi, IN and Paula Hering (John) of Veedersburg, IN; his sisters-in-law, Linda Smith (Jim), Jane Ehler (Archie) of Williamsport, IN and Donna Lewis of Gatlinburg, TN; and his grandsons, Justin Richard Oilar and Ashton Shane Oilar.
