He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Ann Thews; his parents-in-law, Thomas and Anna Minda; his brother Robert Thews (Diane); his siblings-in-law, Joseph Minda, Nettie and Terry Brooks; and his father Elmer Thews.

He is survived by: his children, Kathy Schroll, Karen Arndt (Stephen), Kristine Fannin (Kevin) and Ken Thews (Michelle); his grandchildren, Nicole Slack, Michael Schroll (Jamie), Scott Schroll (Jana), Tim Schroll (Hannah), Nathan Smith (Brittany), Matthew Schroll (Ashley), Brianne Clark (Bryan) and Brendan Thews; his stepgranddaughters, Megan Klimek (Blair) and Anna Jones (Marc); his great grandchildren, Talan, Landon, Darrin, Brody, Noah, Owen, Remington, Harper, Mila, Ellington, Leo, Oakley, Clara and Wyatt; his stepgreat-grandsons, Patrick, Liam, Graeme and Reed; and his sister Wilma Fehd (late Kenneth). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Harold's name to VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN.
