He was predeceased by: his parents, Orville Peter and June P. Hartzler (Perry); and his sisters, Marilou Priscilla Hoehne and Lillian Sue Pownall. He is survived by: his wife Shari Hartzler; his daughter Jaymi Hartzler (Shawn Spence); his grandchildren, Lillith, Ashtan and Liam; and his sister Martha Leavell. He is also survived by several nieces and nieces.
