He was predeceased by: his former wife Diana "Dee"; and his parents, Verne Sr. and Elouise. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Cordes; his sister Marcia Renz (Rod); his children, Brian (Bettye) and Diana (Paul); his pet Zoe; his grandchildren, Brian Jr., Chrissy (Kirk), Cassandra (Greg) and Joshua; and his great grandchildren, Eleanor and Summer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Smits Funeral Home (2121 Pleasant Springs Ln, Dyer, IN 46311). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 13th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
