He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Hayes and Elva Rotert Hayes; and his wife Sharon K. Armstrong. He is survived by: his sons, John Hayes (Andi) of Tell City, Craig Hayes (Shelba) of Seymour and Alan Hayes (Melissa) of Columbus; and his brother Mark Hayes (Vicki) of Canton, Georgia.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
