With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Rita (Cole) Vierling (Shelbyville, Indiana), born in Waldron, Indiana, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. Rita left this world on October 9, 2025 at the age of 83, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Dale E. Cole and Emma Louise Cole (Utsler); her son Skip Hartwell; her grandson Dylan Branham; and her siblings, Phillip Cole, Billy Cole, Tessa Pursley, Donna DeVault Dewaelsche and Judy Nugent.
She is survived by: her children, Terry Baxter (Kent) of Shelbyville, Stacey Fields (Mark) of Shelbyville, Jana Crisman (Darrin) of Shelbyville, Alan Hartwell of Moscow, Julia Steward (Dwayne) and Jack Hartwell (Angie) of Madison, IN.; her grandchildren, Jason, Ciara, Travis, Zach, Luke, Holly, Morgan, Danny, Dustin, Lindsey, Meagan, Ashley, Shawn, Cassie, Stephen, Cody and Seth; her sisters, Terry Whicker of Hanover, IN, Lana Reinhart of Louisville, KY and Vickie Holder of Shelbyville, IN; and her pet Molly. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 14th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Murphy - Parks Funeral Services (703 S Harrison St, Shelbyville, IN 46176). A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 15th 2025 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rita's grandson, Cody, in support of his recovery from GBS, in care of the funeral home.
