Nancy Botkin wrote a sympathy message

“My heartfelt condolences to the family of Al Vitale, especially to his loving wife, Nancy. My friendship with Al goes back many years when Al joined the English Department at IUSB as an associate faculty member shortly after he retired from teaching at Penn High School. Al and I, along with many colleagues, shared a strong commitment to developing a writing program to best suit incoming freshmen. I will always treasure our personal and professional relationships. I will miss him dearly.”
