He was predeceased by: his parents, Alease Elvira Smith and John Henry Smith; and his siblings, Robert Leo Smith, John Henry Smith Jr. and Alice Blackwell Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Bennie Smith Jr. of Gastonia, Richard, April Smith of Suffolk, Virginia, Laura Gordon of Gastonia, Adrian, Elly Smith of Niles, Michigan and Virginia Smith of Gastonia; and his brothers, Clarence (Dorothy Smith), Isaiah (Tootsie Coleman), Alvin (Norma Smith), Raymond Smith of Roanoke, Virginia and David. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren, many cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and close friends.
