He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Matthys and Margaret Matthys; his son Mark Matthys; his siblings, Doris Mitchell and Ronald Matthys; and his wife Janet K. Labis.
He is survived by: his children, Pamela Lewis (Dave Beard) of South Bend, Kimberlyn Thompson (Barry Buckland) of Warren, IN and Kristen Pierce (Mike) of Elkhart, IN; his stepson Brian Gall (Kristin) of South Bend; his grandchildren, Justin Kaser, Jessica Matthys, Adam Patti, Lacey Perkins, David Patti and Brandon Galvan (Becca); and his stepgrandchildren, Corbin and MacKenzie Gall.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Kaniewski Funeral Home (3545 N Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN 46628). A funeral service was held on Saturday, May 31st 2025 at 3:00 PM at the Catholic Funeral Service (3545 N Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN 46628).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph County Fairgrounds at 5117 South Ironwood Road, South Bend 46614 or Riley's Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
