He was predeceased by: his parents, Theodore J. Berntsen and Elizabeth Berntsen (Ahlert); his wife Annie "Ann" Vandermotten; and his daughter Janice Saros. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Mary Olguin (Daniel) of Tijeras, Paul G. Berntsen (Paula) of Brownsburg and Mark A. Berntsen (Kristie) of Jacksonville, Florida; his son-in-law Daniel Saros of Mishawka, Indiana; his grandchildren, Shaun Armon (Andi) of Fort, Joshua Berntsen (Amber) of St. Petersburg, Elizabeth Rener (Daniel) of Atlantic Beach, Brenna Armon of Libertyville, Allison Hahn (Derek) of San Antonio, Benjamin Berntsen of Brownsburg, Jillian Bonnell (Ryan) of Mishawaka and Jamie Saros of Mishawaka, Indiana; and his friend Gert Brown. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
