With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Leona M Burkus of South Bend, Indiana, born in Mishawaka, Indiana, who passed away on October 18, 2022 at the age of 90. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Jerome Weirdt and Eva De Weirdt (Pletcher); her granddaughters, Kelly Anderson, Amy Ernsberger and Holly Ernsberger; and her siblings, Germaine De Wispelaere, Evelyn De Weirdt and Robert De Weirdt.
She is survived by: her husband William Burkus; her children, Philip Burkus, Janice Ernsberger (Ken), Julie Van Laere (John), Nancy Meyer (Tom), Linda Curl (Don) and Kevin Burkus (Andria); her grandchildren, Angie, Philip, Jennifer, Eugene, Robin, Laura, Jeff, Pat, Doug, Shawn, Zachary, Nathan, Dustin, Korbin and Mallorey; and her sister Audrey Sobecki. She is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Caring Cove Hospice.
