He was predeceased by : his parents, Willard Brien and Katherine Brien (Stoney); his wife Mary Jo Brien (Shew); his siblings, William Brien, John Patrick Brien, Mary Ellen Brien and Katherine Stoepler; his siblings-in-law, John Stoepler, Nicholas Patton and Nancy Page; and his nephew Kevin Brien.

He is survived by : his children, James Michael Brien of South Bend, Patricia Marie Brien of South Bend and David William Brien (Nelle) of Carmel; his grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth, Rebecca Johanna of Carmel, Amber Marie (Kevin) of Fishers, Cleopatra Catherine of Westfield and John Taylor of Indianapolis; his great grandchildren, Charley Marie and Lucy June of Fishers; his brother James T Brien (Kathryn) of South Bend; and his sisters-in-law, Marge Brien of San Antonio and Marie Brien of Peoria. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
