He is survived by: his wife Mary Ellen Gartee; his children, Lisa Leavitt (Mick) of Chicago, Renee Pfaller (Dick) of South Bend, Jennifer Weaver (Josh) of Oak Park, Illinois, Richard Was, Jr. (Trice) of Granger and Chris Was (Kyrstn) of Akron, Ohio; his grandchildren, Christina Fowler (Brandon), Richie Was, III (Kelsey), Katie Was, Marie Pfaller, Karlee Pfaller, John Was, Rachel Was, Maggie Pfaller, Brody Weaver and Caden Weaver; and his great grandchild Ayla Fowler.
