He was predeceased by: his parents, Irene Bessie Hendrickson and Carl Raynor Swanson; his brothers, Donald Swanson (Norma) and Jerry Swanson; and his brother-in-law Keith Rigby.
He is survived by: his wife Karen Kay Stephens; his siblings, Dennis Swanson (Karole) of Niles, MI, Michael Swanson (Eleanor) of South Bend and Susan Rigby of South Bend; his children, Sterling Swanson and Lisa Ellam (Mark); and his grandchildren, Jennifer Worvey (Chad) of Niles, MI, Garrett Swanson (Andrea) of South Bend, Benjamin Ellam (Krista) of South Bend and Andrew Ellam of South Bend. He is also survived by seven great-grandsons.
