He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter J. Filipek and Eleanor Filipek (Pilawski); and his sisters, Mary Filipek and Mary Ellen Scandale. He is survived by: his wife Barbara A. Young; his children, Elizabeth Anne Filipek, Ross Filipek (Holly) of South Bend, Brian Filipek of South Bend, Paul Filipek of South Bend and James Filipek (Perla) of South Bend; his grandchildren, Kaylee, Gavin, Clark, Akira, Annie, Lydia and Henry; and his siblings, Sharon Welch (Joseph) of Hannibal, Missouri and Bruce Filipek of South Bend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Walter's honor to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County or to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Michiana.
