He was predeceased by: his parents, Alex Burkus and Dorothy Burkus (Ray); his wife Leona Burkus (DeWeirdt); and his granddaughters, Kelly Anderson, Amy Ernsberger and Holly Ernsberger.
He is survived by: his children, Phil, Kevin Burkus (Andria), Janice Ernsberger (Ken), Julie Van Laere (John), Nancy Meyer (Tom) and Linda Curl (Don). He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.
