She was predeceased by: her parents, Gil Jernigan and Effie Jernigan (Simmons); her former husband Vernon Gilbert; her husband Walter Gilbert; and her siblings, Doug Jernigan, Emma Jernigan and Hubert Jernigan.
She is survived by: her children, Vicki Means (Francis) of Syracuse and Kevin Gilbert (Pam) of Syracuse; and her grandchildren, Abigail Sanders (Grant), Grant Gilbert (Haley), Spencer Gilbert (Daryann), Ellisa Hepler (Andrew), Kerri Nyikos (John) and Sean Brennaman (Christina). She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
