She was predeceased by: her parents, Merl Whitehead and Edna Whitehead (Berkey); her husband Willis "Bill" Carpenter; her siblings, Laverle Hartsough, Lois Kaufman Bontreger, Robert "Bob" and Eldon Whitehead; and her grandson Joel Meade.
She is survived by: her children, Vickie Shuder (Roger) of Syracuse, Susan Dietz (Chris) of Millersburg, Jim Carpenter (Carolyn) of Osceola and Jeff Carpenter of Hale, Michigan. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
