He was predeceased by: his parents, Lelia Pearl Mitchell (Bryant) and Curt Mitchell; his wife Joyce Mitchell (Nugent); his children, Debbie Clark, Bobbi Sabelhaus, Shannon Merritt and Toby Merritt; his siblings, Virginia Lillpop, Doris Greive, Curt Mitchell, Jr. and Thelma Suter; and his son-in-law Michael Johnson.
He is survived by: his children, Vernon "Bud" Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Marie Bennett (David), Tamara Johnson and Dawn Melton; and his girlfriend Margaret Franklin. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
