He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Smith and Mary Smith (Scott); his wife Pat (Pat); and his siblings, George, Arthur, Edward, William and Marjorie.
He is survived by: his children, Marilyn Smith (James Farley) of McCordsville, Kathleen O'Neal (Steven) of Weatherford, Linda Smith of Decatur, Georgia and Thomas Smith (Penny) of Rock Hill; his grandchildren, Stacy, Trisha, Michael, Alaina, David and Christopher; and his sister Nancy Edison of Round Rock, Texas.. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
