He was predeceased by: his brother Robert Harkness; and his daughter Katrina Harkness. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ferris Harkness; his sister Kathy Norris; his children, James Harkness, Jr. (Tracy) and Avalee Akers (Jim); and his grandsons, Chandler Stanton, Chase Stanton (Stephanie), James "Trey" Harkness III, Tyler Harkness and Tristan Harkness.
