He was predeceased by: his parents, John Friend and Mary Friend (Rector); his son Shawn; and his brother John "Bud" Friend. He is survived by: his children, Scott Friend (Carolyn), Sam Friend (Amy), Shay Dell, Chip Friend (Nicole) and Christy Perrin (Jeremy); his grandchildren, Shawn Friend (Megan), Kayla Parr (Nick), Lindsay Friend, Nathan Friend, Brody Dell, Layla Friend, Carter Friend, Bailey Perrin and Maliya Perrin; and his sister Katherine "Tootie" Freeman.
