George Engel Obituary
75, of Valparaiso passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2017. He was born December 14, 1941 in Valparaiso the son of Chester and Genevieve (Perry) Engel. George was a graduate of Mooseheart High School in Illinois and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. On August 17, 1963 in Valparaiso, George married his beloved wife, Kathleen Clarke, who preceded him in death in 1977.
He was a retired field technician for NCR. A lifelong Cubs fan, he was ecstatic to watch them finally win the 2016 World Series. He was a huge fan of harness horse racing, and one-time race horse owner. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Kathryn and Francis. He is survived by his children, Gary (Susan) Engel, Greg (Lisa) Engel, Mindy Engel, Kathleen (Matt) Crozier, George Engel II, and Steven (Sachi) Engel; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Wittlee), Olivia (Pete), Samantha (Robb), Adam (Liz), Simon (Amanda), Nicholas, Jasmine, Vanessa, Lourdes, Jacob, Alexander, Dylan, Owen, Ryan, Hanako; and great grandchildren, Evan, Marann, Luke, Jack, Lucy, Annabelle, and Henry; also, many loving nieces and nephews.
He loved his family and was much loved by them. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home , 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Kouts.
