He was predeceased by: his parents, Jacob and Victoria H.; his wife Joan Sarafin; and his brothers, Thomas and Edward Smrekar.
He is survived by: his children, John Smrekar (Debbie) of Valparaiso, Timothy Smrekar (Jennifer) of Valparaiso and Michelle Balzanto (Tony) of Florida; his grandchildren, Suzanne, Buddy, Brian, Aaron, Kristina, Mitchell, Lea and Alyssa; Caleb, Marissa, Leah, Ava, Theo, Jack, Sara and Emmy.
