She was predeceased by: her parents, Carl Hjalmar and Ida Marie Johnson (Sundstrom); her husband Peter Appel; her daughter Gretchen Appel Blakeslee; her brother Sven Rune Johnson; and her sister-in-law Catherine Johnson (Kay).
She is survived by: her children, Peter (Pat), David, Susan Ruff (Paul), Thomas (Paula), Karen Tucker and Lisa Iddins (James). She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the St. Patrick Catholic Church (638 N Calumet Rd, Chesterton, IN 46304). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday, October 2nd 2026 at 10:00 AM at the same location.
