She was predeceased by : her parents, John Martindale and Jennie Martindale (Church); her husband George B. Bess; her brother Junior Martindale; and her great grandchild Jett Smith.
She is survived by : her daughter Barbara Jo Smith of Vincennes; her grandson Wesley Smith (Becky) of Mt. Carmel, IL; and her siblings, Marilyn Smith (John) of Vincennes and Larry Martindale (Wilda) of Vincennes. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren.
