He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas S. VanMeter and Maggie L. VanMeter (Qualls); his wife Georgia R. Norton; and his grandson Brady Eltzroth. He is survived by: his children, Perry VanMeter (Deborah) of LaFontaine, Scott VanMeter of Garrett and Shanna Eltzroth (Michael) of Wabash; and his grandchildren, Kevin Eltzroth, Mellissa Spencer, Brandon VanMeter, Joshua VanMeter and Jessie VanMeter. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.

Preferred memorials are to be directed to the Wabash County Animal Shelter, 819 Manchester Ave., Wabash, Indiana 46992 in care of McDonald Funeral Homes.
