He was predeceased by: his parents, Ovid Smith and Letha Smith (Logan); his stepmother Mary Smith (Hayes); and his brother Dean L. Smith. He is survived by: his wife Helen Norma Miller; his children, Joh Smith (Candy) of Warren, Rhonda Brubaker (Rick) of Warren, Jeana McElhaney (Douglas) of Huntington, Jon Smith (Kristy) of Warren, Ron Smith (Carrie) of Carmel and Jayne Ripani (Chris) of Brentwood, Tennessee.; his grandchildren, Leslie Morris (Jeff), Lee Smith (Drew), Kari Heim (Josh), Krysta Fornal (Cory), Kourtney Yoder (Brandon), Lindsay Snyder (Collin), Carley Platt (Kyle), Rebecca Pritchett (Kory), Andrew Smith (Gabby), Garret Smith (Sarah), Samantha Smith, Eli, Luke and Ali Ripani; his great grandchildren, Isaac, Kaleb, Makayla, Ivy, Samuel Morris, Lola, Finley, Otto Smith, Ady, Ellyanna, Kay Heim, Gabe, Ollie Fornal, Nate Yoder, Keaton, Whitley Snyder, Isaiah, Brycen Platt and Rylan Pritchett; his sister-in-law Betty Smith of Huntington; and his stepsister Janice Brubaker (Richard).
