I, Joan, remember meeting Lela for the first time at the Houts-Barber Reunion when Lela was 99 years old. I had never met anyone that age. She stood with her walker and looked over the historic pictures with me. She wasn't feeling like she would make 100 years, but she had a strong faith. She grew up in a simpler and well-principled time. I sensed that stayed with her.”
