With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Gertrude May Schmitz of West Lafayette, Indiana, born in Terre Haute, Indiana, who passed away on February 22, 2024 at the age of 96. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by : her parents, Roy Herrington and Aimee Herrington (Hauck); her husband Fred William Schmitz Jr.; and her sister Mary Herrington Heady. She is survived by : her daughters, Christine Ladisch (Michael) of West Lafayette, Susan Owen of Hawkinsville, GA and Carol McDavid (Dennis) of Leland, NC; and her grandchildren, Sarah Ladisch, Mark Ladisch, Eric Blagg and Kyle Blagg. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in Gertie's honor may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, the Westminster Village Foundation, or any other organization supporting children and family.
