He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Deo Gilbert and Adda Williamson Gilbert; and his son Michael Reed Gilbert. He is survived by: his brothers, Harold W. Gilbert and Paul S. Gilbert; his children, Ellen Walker (Brian) of Mission, Sandy Gilbert (Dale Greenwell) of Richmond, Virginia and Richard Gilbert II (Michelle) of Westfield, Indiana; and his grandchildren, Brett McCarter, Stephanie Layman, Breann Walker, Brittany McCarter, Whitney Kisner, Morgan Gilbert, Nicholas Gilbert and Harrison Gilbert. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the North Union Cemetery (800 W 425 N, Kokomo, IN 46901). A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 16th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Home of Rich and Michelle Gilbert.
