He is survived by: his grandchildren, Daniel Mekola (Shannon Hutchens), Christopher Mekola (Niki), Anna Bowlin (Ray), Sabrina Piunti, Joshua Mekola, Paige Mekola, Sarah Stewart (Belanah), Jenica Mekola, Kyle Mossman (Hannah) and Khloe Cruz (Piere); his great grandchildren, Lukas Herrmann, Kyla Burton, Aliciana Gutierrez, Keira Burton, Mia Piunti, Ashley Newbury (Artie), Jaxton Mekola, Lyndon Mossman and Elaine Mossman; his great great grandchildren, Sophia and Artie Newbury; his siblings-in-law, Mary Mekola and Michael Sheppard (Sheryl); Patricia Gavin, Robert Mekoka, Jr. (Edie), Cathy Piunti (Orlando), Lori Mekola (Russel Joy), John Mekola (Judy) and Barbara Mossman (Ken).
Visitation was held on Wednesday, September 23rd 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Moeller Funeral Home (104 Roosevelt Rd, Valparaiso, IN 46383). A funeral Mass was held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (204 N Ohio St, Wanatah, IN 46390).
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Sacred Heart.
