He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilbur Rutter and Helen Rutter; his former wife Phyllis Hensel; his sisters, Ortie Henderson and Sedena "Mickey" Gingerich; his sons-in-law, Robert Smith and Joseph Schwert; and his great grandchild Annabella Rutter.
He is survived by: his wife Elma "Jean" Rutter; his children, Debbie Britt (Kerry), Sherry Schwert, Cindy Smith, Robert V. "Boots" Rutter Jr. (Dawn), Lisa Leach (Keevin), Cyndy Ferguson, Jamie Pruitt and George Anderson; and his sister Dorine Nail. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
